A cautionary tale of a cyber security attack. Join us for a conversation with Jenn MacLeod of MacLeod Lorway Insurance and Chris Doucette of Supercity Office Systems who will share their personal and professional experiences on what to do when your company is held at ransom in a cyber attack. Jen has first hand knowledge of this, having experienced a cyber outage in 2019 that lasted months, costing thousands of dollars in new technology, overtime expense and loss of new business. Her family insurance business dealt with a ransom ware attack on their cloud provider that impeded her team from being able to fulfill their company mandate to meet and exceed their client's needs. She will share what the real costs are of not being prepared and invested in a solid cyber security plan. Chris will offer some practical advice on what businesses can do to help prevent and recover from an attack. Margie Humphreys will facilitate the discussion with Jen and Chris as they share details of a business owner's worst nightmare. You will not want to miss this session to hear lessons learned and preventative measures we can all take.
"Cyber attacks hit businesses every day. Former Cisco CEO John Chambers once said, “There are two types of companies: those that have been hacked, and those who don’t yet know they have been hacked.”
Jennifer MacLeod’s background in marketing and operations helps her deliver presentations that challenge the statement “because that’s how we’ve always done it.” MacLeod earned her BA from St. Mary’s University and she holds a Canadian Accredited Independent Broker (CAIB) designation. She continued her learning at Carleton University and has done executive insurance programs at Queens University, Western University and was part of the inaugural national Broker Marketing Academy hosted by CAA. Her strong background in learning, development and managing large corporate teams provides her with insight in asking probing questions that come with outside the box solutions. As a third generation broker, MacLeod is shaped by a commitment to community and embraces the philosophy of personal contact with the client as the priority and using technology to enhance the experience.
Chris Doucette For over 15 years, Chris Doucette has worked tirelessly to help bridge the gap between users and technology. As a strong advocate for security-first IT systems, he specializes in IT strategy, cloud services, as well as voice systems.
Over his career, Chris has sold two of his businesses. The latest was a merger with Supercity Office Systems where he holds the position of Practice Lead, IT. There, Chris steers his division in building and maintaining robust, secure, and cutting-edge IT departments for thousands of users across a wide variety of companies.
Outside of business hours, Chris spends his time watching movies, having dinner with friends, and travelling. He is a veracious reader to keep up with the latest in technology, science, as well as current events, and -time permitting- he squeezes in a video game or two with friends.
