There is no enterprise quite like a family enterprise - especially in Atlantic Canada, where business is built on relationships, resilience, and legacy. Family businesses face challenges that rarely have one-size-fits-all solutions. Governance, succession, family dynamics, and leadership development are complex and deeply personal, often requiring perspectives that combine local understanding with broader insight.

Join Leslie Bishop, President of Family Business Atlantic, and Steve Beauchesne, CEO of Family Enterprise Canada (FEC) for an informative Lunch & Learn session exploring how family enterprises can receive the benefits of belonging to each organization.

The conversation will provide:

  • Clarity on the role FBA plays in supporting family enterprises locally through peer groups, connections, and regionally relevant programming
  • Perspective on how FEC complements that support with national research, education, and access to a broader family enterprise network
  • Confidence in understanding where to seek guidance as your business and family evolve over time
  • Connection to a community of peers facing similar challenges, including succession planning, next-generation development, governance, and growth

Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how FBA and FEC work together to support family enterprises at different stages, and how engaging with both organizations can provide continuity, insight, and support.

Together, we are building a connected community where families are not navigating challenges alone, but growing with shared knowledge and collective strength - ensuring family businesses in Atlantic Canada don't just survive, but thrive for generations to come.

Meet Your Presenters:

Leslie Bishop, President, Family Business Atlantic

Leslie grew up on the factory floor of her great grandfather's pulp mill plant in Hantsport, Nova Scotia while visiting her CEO father, who grew the business to a fifth generation owned family group of companies. Leslie spent her younger years working in communications and marketing for special projects with the family-owned head office of Scotia Investments Ltd. in Bedford, Nova Scotia. After graduating from Saint Mary's University in Halifax, she ventured to Toronto to complete her degree in Public Relations and Communications where she led Marketing PR initiatives for Webber Shandwick.  Leslie returned home to Nova Scotia after 10 years, and ran a developmental leadership consulting firm, focusing on team dynamics, adaptive leadership, and resilient cultures. She has trained executives, teachers, coaches, teams and families in the skills and capacities that make authentic leadership and connection possible.

Trained in facilitative leadership through Ten Directions and a certified Associate Integral Coach, Leslie is often found digging deeply into family run businesses around the world. Currently, Leslie serves on multiple boards, is President of Family Business Atlantic, and Chair of the Scotia Investments Family Assembly.

Steve Beauchesne, CEO, Family Enterprise Canada

Steve Beauchesne joined Family Enterprise Canada and Family Enterprise Foundation as their CEO in 2024. He was the co-founder and CEO of Beau’s Brewery, from 2006 to 2022. Under Steve’s leadership, Beau’s won 125 national and international awards for beer-making, marketing and packaging design, sustainability and business practices, and raised more than $2 million for charity, community, and the independent arts. Steve certified Beau’s as Canada's first-ever B-Corp brewery, helped found the first craft brewery in Rwanda, and was a founding member of the Canadian Craft Brewers Association.

Steve has been awarded the social entrepreneurship award by the Best of Ottawa Awards, named Design Thinker of the year by the Association of Registered Designers and Community Builder of the year by the United Way. In addition to his full-time gig, Steve sits on the board of directors for the Centre for Social Enterprise Development, plays in a punk rock band and has three daughters who think he’s pretty goofy.
